SHAPESHIFTER
Platinum selling New Zealand drum & bass collective Shapeshifter have announced their brand new album Stars, released on November 4th. To celebrate the announcement, Shapeshifter have released the video for the album’s lead single and title track.
‘Stars’ premiered with Stoney Roads who said, “Focusing on the live energy the group exude and the hard work that goes into producing a stadium sized show – the visuals do an exceptional job at providing a perfect foil for the new single. Etheral electronic textures atop barrelling breakbeats and a crunching sub-bass contrast beautifully with the angelic tones of PDgisss.”
Hailing from Christchurch, New Zealand, the genre-defying five-piece have already seen success with four platinum selling albums charting at No. 1 in their homeland, alongside multiple hit singles. The upcoming new album follows its highly praised predecessorDelta which was released in 2013. The latter also saw the band earn the accolade of ‘Best Group’ and Best Electronica Album’ at the New Zealand Music Awards.
Now with new album Stars, Shapeshifter look set to cement themselves worldwide as one of most important electronic bands today. The title-track glistens with synths and punchy beats reminiscent to Rudimental, while things are directed into a deeper liquid tip with the rolling ‘Blazer’, which nods to the likes of Nu:Tone or London Elektricity.
‘Eternal’ takes things up a gear with huge euphoric builds, ready made to set fire to arenas which the band are already conquering in their homeland. ‘So Long’ meanwhile goes deep into the jungle, nodding to the founding fathers of Roni Size or LTJ Bukem, where they take their inspiration.
Stars crosses as many genres as the band do time zones. The songs are bursting with huge choruses that have won them fans across the world, while also pulling together far reaching influences from disco, funk, reggae and beyond.
Shapeshifter have already made a huge impact across the UK and Europe playing sold-out shows, including headline performances at both London’s The Forum and Shepherds Bush Empire in the past few years. The band have also made a big impact on the UK festival circuit with appearances at Glastonbury, Lovebox and Global Gathering.
UK tour dates in support of Stars will be announced shortly, which will see the band firmly lay their distinct mark on our shores as they continue to set pulses racing.
