Grammy Winning Engineer Ben Kane to Open New Studio, Electric Garden, in Williamsburg, Brooklyn
Kickstarter Campaign Now Live
After winning a Grammy for over a decade of work on D’Angelo’s Black Messiah, Ben Kane (mixer/engineer/producer), and Drew Vogelman (past owner of The Garden and Dessau Studios), are building a new Brooklyn recording studio, Electric Garden. Kane is rallying up his fellow funkateers, musicians, artists, audio enthusiasts and supporters to pledge towards Electric Garden’s Kickstarter campaign to raise funds to help create a facility that breaks the rules sonically and aesthetically.
The Kickstarter campaign offers a wide range of incentives for all of its supporters. Whether they are just fans of music or musicians themselves, there’s an incentive for everyone – from Electric Garden memorabilia to halfpriced studio days, an instudio concert series, rare signed D’Angelo vinyl test pressings, and mixing workshops taught by Kane himself.
The exclusive concert series will launch the opening of Electric Garden and feature artists like Chris Dave and The Drumhedz, D’Angelo’s Vanguard Singers, Kendra Foster, Keyon Harrold, Chris Turner, Krystle Warren, and a very special concert to be announced on July 13th.
Kane, originally from Philadelphia, attended New York University’s Music Technology program before leaving to pursue engineering at Jimi Hendrix’s fabled Electric Lady Studios.
Teaming up with producer Russell Elevado led to Kane’s decade of work with D’Angelo. Over the years Kane has worked with some notable artists and musicians from around the globe, including Snoop Dogg, Al Green, Norah Jones, Mos Def, Emily King, The Roots, Common, and more.
Electric Garden will be an otherworldly studio experience like no other.
It will feature striking designs by artist and architect Missy Ablin, including a giant living wall in the control room and both carved wood art and fabric art adorning the space.

At a time where NYC studios are rapidly closing, this unique space will serve a growing music community that seeks to push the limits of the art.
