The Undiscovered Genius of Kenneth Griffin” – Drowned In Sound

“This charming man possesses possibly the most evocative, even beautiful, Irish singing voice ever recorded — equal parts Scott Walker and…oh, lots of cool icons from the past with vaguely baritone vocal styles like Leonard Cohen perchance.” – The Sunday Independent

“Sinatra singing Lou Reed songs” – The Irish Times

August Wells finished 2015 on a high note, supporting Glen Hansard at a sold out show at New York’s legendary Beacon Theatre, before returning to Ireland and Europe at the end of January for a number of dates including a several sell out shows, treating audiences to their music that rolls in like dusk; warm yet tragic, inclusive while conveying the outsider. August Wells are Dublin native Ken Griffin (ex-Rollerskate Skinny, Favourite Sons) and New York pianist John Rauchenberger who have met in the middle of differing musical pasts to form a band who would sit easily at the same table as Scott Walker or John Cale.

Their new single ‘Here in the Wild’, out in the UK on April 22nd, is a sumptuous piece of music. It’s a thoughtful, piano and string-drenched track which bears the wistful hallmarks of songwriters whose place in a weary world is tempered by the acceptance of some of its fateful twists.

Watch/Listen to ‘Here In The Wild’:

August Wells’ music has begun to make its mark and already has been described as; “strange other worldly chamber music”, “Sinatra singing Lou Reed songs” and “a secret marriage of Willy Nelson and Lee Hazlewood”. It could also be described as songs to walk across your troubled heart with . . .

Ken Griffin’s deep and smoky tones on ‘Here in the Wild’ bear comparisons with other great Irish vocalists like Cathal Coughlan yet the band are also heavily influenced by their surroundings living in New York. August Well’s music is definitely for those who enjoy their music tinged with melancholy and moving, mature sentiments.

“Don’t you find it all such a bore,

People like us don’t exist anymore,

We’re invisible now,

Sweet heart we’re free.

Here in the wild.”

‘Here In The Wild’ is coming out on 22nd April in the UK following much acclaim for the band in Ireland and is from the band’s forthcoming second album ‘’Madness Is the Mercy’.
