Hudson Mohawke Shares New Video // US Tour This Month

In little over the month, Hudson Mohawke’s highly anticipated sophomore LP Lantern will be released. Having shared the BBC Radio 1 Hottest Record in the World deemed “Very First Breath”, Hud Mo is unveiling the track’s cinematic video by young Dutch director Sam De Jong. His film sees a surreal and timeless flip on West Side Story where star crossed lovers from rival gangs try to return to their Very First Breath. The track also recently got the remix treatment from the groundbreaking German producer Boys Noize who flips the listerine-clean hook of Irfane’s original vocal into a French filter house workout, sending the song into a thrilling new direction.

“Very First Breath was something fresh for me. I’d been touring on the same circuit for a couple of years with Irfane and I had been so busy on TNGHT stuff I was itching to work on more song structured record… The album flows through the passage of the day and in my head, I see this song as the very beginning of the record. The sun just coming up. It was important this was the first track people hear.”  – Hudson Mohawke

Following the premiere of “Very First Breath”, Hudson Mohawke debuted on air the critically-acclaimed “Ryderz” during a Rinse FM takeover last month. The track is an electric, hands-in-the-air nod to the classic production of Just Blaze and Dipset flipped in the way that only HudMo can with a euphoric electronic lead-solo floating above a huge golden soul sample.

All together these songs are just starting to hint the breadth of the forthcoming album Lantern, a masterclass in modern Hip Hop, Pop, RnB & Avant Garde Electronics from a producer who refuses to be pigeon-holed into one style, never playing it safe and continuing to push the boundaries of what people expect. But this month people will get to hear much more, and will also see Hud Mo debuting a brand new live show in New York & London. For the first time in his career – Birchard has formed a band to perform his music. Acutely aware that these perfectly engineered, massive songs deserve accurate translation to live instruments – this is the producer making a bold step into new territory to support an album that’s exciting and crammed full of innovation.
