Spurred on as ever by their birthplaces in the north of England, Kirklees Arcadia
sees James Young and Aiden Whalley conjuring clouds of digitally twisted chorals, dubwise textures and melodically limber, drum-heavy compositions that refuse to sit still. Pulled into this orbit are enigmatic longtime ally Zomby, as well as Wild Beasts’ frontman Hayden Thorpe on a shifting cover of Paul McCartney’s “Temporary Secretary”. Add to this a reworking of their classic “Aidy’s Girl Is A Computer” and a tribute to the late, great Mark Bell of LFO and the key lines of contemporary UK electronic music become readily apparent.
Says Darkstar of their most recent work, “Kirklees Arcadia is a collection inspired by our frequent visits to West Yorkshire over the last 12 months in the process of realizing the third Darkstar record.”
